Prodotto da Dodicilune, distribuito in Italia e all’estero da IRD e nei principali store online da BELIEVE DIGITAL, mercoledì 18 marzo 2026 esce “Imaginary Songbook (Film Studio Session)”, video-documentario su supporto DVD che testimonia l’intera sessione di registrazione del progetto omonimo “Imaginary Songbook” (già pubblicato in audio CD a luglio 2025) del trio composto da Sergio Armaroli (vibrafono), Elliott Sharp (chitarre, sax soprano), Steve Piccolo (basso elettrico, voci, elettroniche), artisti considerati figure iconiche della scena musicale internazionale del jazz sperimentale e di avanguardia.

Un progetto decisamente particolare che nasce dal dialogo e dall’invenzione attraverso frammenti di melodie e voci, echi, strutture armoniche, riff, incipit ritmici per un totale di 63 brani standard, tra reali e immaginari, brevi o brevissimi, per un totale di quasi due ore di musica.

Produced by Dodicilune, distributed in Italy and abroad by IRD and in major online stores by BELIEVE DIGITAL, Wednesday, 18 March 2026 sees the release of ‘Imaginary Songbook (Film Studio Session)’, a video documentary on DVD that captures the entire recording session of the project of the same name, ‘Imaginary Songbook,’ already released as audio CD in July 2025 by the trio composed of Sergio Armaroli (vibraphone), Elliott Sharp (guitars, soprano saxophone), and Steve Piccolo (electric bass, vocals, electronics), artists considered iconic figures of the international experimental and avant-garde jazz music scene.

A decidedly unique project that stems from dialogue and invention through fragments of melodies and voices, echoes, harmonic structures, riffs, and rhythmic incipits for a total of 63 standard tracks, both real and imaginary, short or very short, for a total of almost two hours of music.

Armaroli Piccolo Sharp – Imaginary songbook (film studio session) (Dodicilune Dischi Ed607)

Una collezione letterale di composizioni surrealiste, incastonate in un concetto creativo accattivante molto più ampio di quello che può starci in dvd di ben 99 minuti e 21 secondi! Recensire questo progetto è facile se parti dalla loro dichiarazione di intenti .. Un progetto decisamente particolare che nasce dal dialogo e dall’invenzione attraverso frammenti di melodie e voci, echi, strutture armoniche, riff, incipit ritmici per un totale di 63 brani standard, tra reali e immaginari, brevi o brevissimi, per un totale di quasi due ore di musica .. Credo che il modus operandi per addentrarci in questo dvd debba necessariamente considerare (come pilastri fondativi) l’enorme bagaglio dei tre comparenti: Sergio Armaroli è vibrafonista, percussionista, compositore, didatta e artista totale, la cui attività spazia in diversi campi artistici e musicali: in quello jazz, va sicuramente segnalata la sua collaborazione con il pianista statunitense Billy Lester .. Nato nel 1954 ne New Hampshire americano, Steve Piccolo vive da anni a Milano ed inizia la sua carriera come bassista jazz nei primi anni ’70, fondando i Lounge Lizards insieme a John Lurie, Evan Lurie, Arto Lindsay e Tony Fier, gruppo jazz nato dalla allora scena no wave di New York .. Elliott Sharp è un polistrumentista, compositore e performer americano. Figura centrale della scena musicale avant-garde e sperimentale di New York, è stato un pioniere nell’applicazione della geometria frattale, della teoria del caos e delle metafore genetiche alla composizione musicale e all’interazione. Prodotto da Sergio Armaroli e Maurizio Bizzochetti (distribuito in Italia e all’estero da IRD e nei principali store online da Believe Digital), Mercoledì 18 Marzo 2026 è uscito Imaginary Songbook (Film Studio Session), video-documentario come dvd che testimonia l’intera sessione di registrazione del progetto omonimo Imaginary Songbook (già pubblicato come doppio audio cd a Luglio 2025) del trio composto da Sergio Armaroli (vibrafono), Elliott Sharp (chitarre, sax soprano), Steve Piccolo (basso elettrico, voci, elettroniche), artisti considerati figure iconiche della scena musicale internazionale del jazz sperimentale e di avanguardia. A loro tre ed a questa produzione, il mio più riverente chapeau: il mio apprezzamento raggiunga anche Raffaele Stefani (che li ha registrati al Backstars Reconding Studio di Milano) ed a Fabio Selvafiorita che si è occupata delle foto e delle riprese video.
